Lucy Cheminais is a ceramicist with nearly 30 years’ experience, creating distinctive hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramics. As a resident and tutor at Fishponds Pottery, she draws on extensive research into studio pottery traditions, with a particular interest in wood and plant ash glazes and their historical development.

Inspired by traditional ceramic practices, Lucy explores the relationship between material, process, and form. Frequently working with natural and found materials, she explores the dialogue between past and present, seeking to honour the unique qualities of each material and allow them to inform the finished work.

Her work is characterised by a quiet simplicity, where surface, form, and material are brought into careful balance. Each piece reflects a sensitivity to material and place, shaped by an ongoing curiosity about the possibilities of clay and glaze.
